Developments and happenings in the West Bottoms area.

11 units of luxury apartments are nearing completion across from the Livestock Exchange Building.

Arguably, bigger news: Bill Haw has “signed an agreement to sell the former Golden Ox restaurant parking lot on Genessee to developers who plan a 230-unit, market-rate apartment building on the site.”

"An Ohio-based developer that specializes in the adaptive reuse of historic buildings has placed under contract the former Abernathy Furniture Co. compound southwest of Ninth and Liberty streets.

The six contiguous, multistory brick-and-timber warehouse buildings date to 1889 and are immediately west of the Hobbs Building, 1427 W. Ninth St."

It seems developers are starting to stake their claim on the old stock of buildings in the Bottoms

$45M apartment project near Kemper Arena wins support - KC Biz Journal

Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins Properties on Thursday was granted a 25-year property tax abatement to help finance its third project in the Kansas City area — the $45 million-plus Stockyards District Apartments in the West Bottoms.

Ryan Cronk, a vice president of development for Flaherty & Collins, told the PIEA board that the four-story project will include 230 market-rate apartments over 8,000 square feet of retail. It will be developed on an underused surface parking area immediately south of the Livestock Exchange Building, 1600 Genessee St., and just north of Kemper Arena.

VP of the development company quoted as describing it as a four-story project in the above article. The rendering sure looks like five and six stories to me. Hopefully that was a misspeak.

Finally closes.
