Redevelopment proposal of Metcalf South and 95 West, happening in the middle of Overland Park.
Plans unveiled for massive mixed-use at 95th and Metcalf
“Redevelopers of Metcalf South and 95 West plan to give the 63-acre site of the dead shopping centers new life as Central Square — a mix of 500,000 square feet of restaurants, retail and entertainment space; 56,000 square feet of offices; and 450 luxury apartments.”
Unfortunately, this seems to stray quite far from the Vision Metcalf plan.
There is a quite interesting counterproposal to the plan.
Just when you thought this plan couldn’t get more depressing…
It’s beginning to look a lot like Walmart
“A recently submitted preliminary development plan for the $320 million Central Square mixed-use project in Overland Park adds credence to what many have been predicting all along: that the project will be anchored by a Walmart store.”
OP shows a spine!
Developers of $320M Central Square urged to think outside the big box
"The developers of Central Square, the proposed $320 million mixed-use redevelopment of the shuttered Metcalf South and 95 West shopping centers, defended a 177,000-square-foot big-box anchor store planned for the project as a necessary evil.
The big-box store, which is proposed near the southeast corner of 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue, where Metcalf South now stands, was the focus of a city staff recommendation that the Overland Park Planning Commission recommend denial of rezoning for Central Square."
This seems drastic. I wonder if they are really shelving the whole thing, or bluffing.
Seems like they could have built a similar development to what they proposed, if they were open to densifying it in the future.
Developers may backfill dead Metcalf shopping centers
