Planning begins on the future of Broadway Bridge
KC Biz Journal

MARC, together with the city of Kansas City, the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan., is about to launch a $3.8 million, 18-month Planning and Environmental Linkages study surrounding the bridge. Ron Achelpohl, director of MARC’s transportation and environment department, said the study will thoroughly examine the area and identify key transportation system needs in the area near the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Interstate 70/35 on the north side of Kansas City’s downtown loop.

Last bit in article makes mention of the 18-month study you mentioned above. What was really interesting was that the study could also look into a realignment that connects a new bridge directly with 35 to the west to cut down on the delay motorist encounter on their southbound commute. This, along with removing the north loop, would be great in creating a seamlessly connected north downtown grid.

Make it a train station

Here is a link to more details on repair/replacement alternatives (pages 17 to 23)–includes discussion on pedestrian and bicycle accommodations.

After a year-and-a-half environmental study, the replacement bridge is slated to open in 2023.
