Fewest homicides in Kansas City since 1972

In 2014, the city tallied a total of 77 homicides. This marks the lowest number in the past 42 years, and it’s the first time in eight years that the city has had less than 100 homicides.

Many view efforts of the Kansas City No Violence Alliance (KC NoVA) as deserving much of the credit for this year’s steep drop. This is strong belief, from the city and police department, that the number will continue to fall in coming years.
